TYPE OF GULET

A gulet is a traditional design of a two-masted or three-masted wooden sailing vessel (the most common design has two masts) from the southwestern coast of Turkey, particularly built in the coastal towns of Bodrum and Marmaris; although similar vessels can be found all around the eastern Mediterranean. Today, this type of vessel, varying in size from 14 to 35 metres, is popular for tourist charters. For considerations of crew economy, diesel power is now almost universally used and many are not properly rigged for sailing.

There are differing opinions about the history and etymology of gullet which took the Turkish name "gulet" from the Italian word goletta. There is still controversy on whether it originated from the schooner, which has long been used as a sweeping net, trawl net or sponging vessel in Turkey in the Aegean and Mediterranean sea; or it originates from the fishing vessel guletta (gouëlette or goélette in French), that has come up with the evolution of the word galea or galeotta for the old Italian naval vessels or "goleta" in Spanish. Others have argued that it resembles the American gullet used in line fishing in the Greenland banks, or the clippers carrying goods from India or Australia to England in the periods of colonization. The origin of the Bodrum type schooner vessels falls to a nearby date, to the beginning of the 1970s. These types of vessels have come up as a result of the need to carry tourists, who have come in numbers to the Aegean region and especially to Bodrum and Marmaris at the end of the 1960s, to nearby bays. The first samples of the vessels called the Bodrum gulet are seen in those years with the addition to meet that demand of chambers and seating on the back of the deck to the chamberless gulet used in fishing or sponging till those years.

Gulet Categories;

We present our yachts in various sizes and under four main categories; Super-Luxury, Luxury, Standard-Plus and Standard.

Super Luxury; This kind of gulet generaly has two engines, a good sailing equipment and every comfort with modern designed complete navigation and safety technologies. Most of them has the hull in laminated, sometimes in steel, with a Length from 18 to 42 mt. The interior spaces offers elegand classic or modern desing, cabins are always large, 5 to 6 maximum, and equipped with every comfort, such as independent air condationing system, large spaces for storing clothes personal items, flat TV and DVD, large bathrooms with modern desing shower cubicles, often with a jacuzzi bathtup.

Luxury Gulet; Categorie general information; This kind of gulets offer spacious cabins, comfortable bathroom with shower, pleasant furnishing, one or two engine is possible, generator, air conditioning system, refrigerator and freezer. These king of gulets are sometimes made in fine woods and metarials very close to super luxury gulets. Suitable for rental retas.

Standart Plus; Categorie: Most of this category gulets have been built or refitted 1990’s and 2000’s can be guite large deck and sunbathing area. However all cabins have their own private bathrooms and toilets, most usually with six – eight cabins. Rental prices are affordable.

Standart Categorie Gulet; Boats in this class are designed in the same structure, there is no air conditioning. Each cabin has a private shower and toilet. mostly gulet has six or eight cabins, all cabin has private bathroom and toilet enclosed. Rental prices are affordable.

Classic Models of Gulet;

Gulet, with round stern, with a classic line, streamlined and elegant, with large cushions at stern but, just for this the space of the below cabins not so wide. They can have ketch or schooner rig.

Aynakıç, the gulets with the square stern or transom stern are called ‘Aynakıç Gulet’ are very common with gulet owner, they have more space to carry aft cabins or in the luxurious standart boat the square stern affords the space for a master cabin behind of gulet.

Tirhandil, stern and bow to the corner at the same height. This model enables a better sailing performance. Generally equipped with a singel mast they are elegant on sizes of no more then 19 mt.
